Vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, cholera, typhoid, and Japanese encephalitis are recommended. Malaria prevention is essential, especially in rural and forested areas. Carry a basic first aid kit, as medical facilities in remote areas may be limited. Stick to bottled or boiled water and avoid raw or undercooked foods. The healthcare system is not so great, so, it is wise to have a comprehensive travel insurance certificate.

The Myanmar Kyat (MMK) is the official currency.

Myanmar uses Type C, D, F, and G plugs, with a standard voltage of 230V. A universal adapter is a good investment.

Travelling in Myanmar can be an adventure. Buses and trains are common for intercity travel, though they may not always be the most comfortable, fast or punctual. Domestic flights are available for quicker travel between major destinations. Taxis and motorbike rentals are popular for city exploration, while traditional boats and private ferry services are available for some destinations.

Burmese is the official language, but you can find English speakers in the tourist areas.

Myanmar is strongly influenced by Buddhist traditions; therefore, it is essential to respect local customs. Key points include dressing modestly when visiting temples, removing shoes before entering sacred sites, avoiding public displays of affection, and using the right hand for giving or receiving items.

• Cool Season (November to February): Mild and dry, making it the best time to visit. Ideal for exploring temples and trekking.

• Hot Season (March to May): Temperatures can be scorching, especially in central Myanmar. Visit hill regions for cooler climates.

• Rainy Season (June to October): Monsoon rains pour heavily during this time, especially in the Southwestern region. During this period, the landscape becomes lush and more vibrant.

Myanmar remains a budget-friendly destination, with affordable guesthouses, local eateries, and public transport. Luxury accommodations and private tours are available for those willing to spend more. Entrance fees for major sites, like Bagan and Inle Lake, contribute to travel costs but are worth the experience.

All visitors coming into Myanmar must have a valid visa except if they are from any of the visa-exempt or visa-on-arrival countries.

A valid passport with at least 6 months validity is required.

• Exchange all your kyat to your foreign currency before leaving Myanmar. You might find it hard to change it outside the country.

• Beware of the security of the environment at all times. 

• For an enjoyable trip free from crowds and noise, the months of August to October are good times for you.
