Buses, boats, planes, trains, taxis and cars are means people get around in Mauritius. Taxis have been described as the best means given their availability in most of the country and their accessibility to popular tourist areas.

Language

English is the official language, but French and Mauritian Creole are widely spoken.

Mauritius has a tropical climate with two main seasons:

  • Summer (November to April): Warm and humid, with occasional rainfall. December to February are the hottest months of the year.

  • Winter (May to October): Cooler and drier, with pleasant temperatures. June to August are the coolest months of the season.

Entry requirements

Visitors to Mauritius are required to obtain a visa before entry into the country, except if they are from any of the visa-exempt countries or visa-on-arrival countries.
