The Bahamas is a Commonwealth country with its capital in Nassau, situated on New Providence Island. This island country of about 415,000 people has its history traced back to the Arwaks and Lucayan. • Summer (May -October) - This period is usually hot and muggy, with temperatures averaging  27C and rainfall averaging 7.5 inches. 
  

• Winter (October -April) - The winter is cool and dry. The coldest month is around January and February, when the temperature averages 20C.
