The Republic of Singapore is a small but densely populated nation with approximately 6 million inhabitants. Its strategic location at the tip of the Malay Peninsula has made it a major trading hub. Despite its urban landscape, Singapore offers several opportunities for outdoor recreation. There are locations to practice sports like golfing, surfing, scuba diving, and skiing, among others, but prices can be high. The scenic gardens and national parks are great locations for nature and wildlife interactions. Prawn fishing, hiking and cycling are some interesting activities for you if looking for an off-the-beaten-track experience. 

Singapore's natural environment is carefully preserved despite its urban development. The country is home to several nature reserves that protect its remaining primary rainforest. These reserves provide habitat for a variety of plant and animal species. Pulau Ubin, an island off the northeast coast, offers a glimpse into Singapore's rural past, with traditional villages and mangrove forests.

Singapore hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year, reflecting its multicultural heritage. Chinese New Year, Deepavali (Diwali), Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Christmas are celebrated with much enthusiasm. The Singapore Grand Prix, a Formula One night race, attracts visitors worldwide. The Great Singapore Sale is a popular shopping event.

It is recommended to be up to date on routine vaccinations before travelling to Singapore. Take precautions against mosquito bites, such as using repellent. Public health standards in Singapore are high and somewhat affordable, irrespective, and make sure your travel insurance is up to date.

Singapore has an easy public transportation network, including the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and bus networks. Taxis and ride-hailing services are also readily available.  Bumboats are available for tourists who want to cruise along the Singapore River. 

The official languages are English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil. English is widely spoken and used in business and administration. Singlish, a local patois blending English with other languages, is also common in informal settings.

Singaporeans are respectful and polite, but formal politeness is not a big deal. Dress codes are relaxed, except when visiting government buildings, bars, and religious places. Singaporeans are socially conservative, so public displays of affection are frowned upon. Littering, spitting, and jaywalking are strictly fined. Eating and drinking are prohibited on public transport.

Singapore has a tropical climate with high humidity and consistent temperatures throughout the year.

• Northeast Monsoon Season (December to March): This period brings slightly cooler temperatures and prolonged rainfall. The later part of the season is usually dry.

• Inter-Monsoon Period (April to May and October): This period is characterised by variable weather patterns. It can be rainy sometimes and windy at other times. 

• Southwest Monsoon Season (June to September): This period is typically drier with lesser rainfall.

Singapore can be an expensive city, but there are options for budget-conscious travellers who should expect to spend at least $50 per day. Mid-range travellers can spend $150 upwards, while luxury lovers can budget $400 daily.

Citizens of most countries can enter Singapore without a visa. Citizens of the visa-required countries are expected to obtain a visa before entry.
All visitors must have the following documents for entry to be granted:

• A passport that is valid for at least six months

• Sufficient funds for the length of your intended stay

• A submitted Electronic Arrival Card (Beta) or a completed Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (D/E Card)

• A confirmed onward or return ticket

• Evidence that you can enter your next destination (for example, a visa)

• A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if coming from a yellow-fever endemic zone
