Greek is the official language, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Greek culture is warm and hospitable. Your behaviour holds more weight than your words; too much politeness in your words can be termed as pretentious. Greeks value transparency, honesty, and respect. Expect to be asked direct personal questions. Be mindful of your outfit when going to religious and public places. Avoid discussing sensitive political issues and never make the mistake of confusing the identity of Greeks for Balkans or Eastern Europeans.

• Winter (December to February): The atmosphere is usually calm, snowy, and rainy in most areas, but it is great for skiing in the mountains and cultural experiences.

Budget travellers can expect to spend €40–80 per day, covering hostels, local transport, and taverna meals. Mid-range travellers might spend €100–200 daily, enjoying boutique hotels, ferry rides, and guided tours. Luxury travellers can budget €300 or more per day for high-end resorts, private tours, and fine dining. Entrance fees to major sites like the Acropolis (€20) and Delphi (€12) are reasonable, while ferry tickets vary based on distance and class.

• The Acropolis, Plaka district, National Archaeological Museum. Knossos Palace, Samaria Gorge, and the vibrant city of Chania are places worth visiting.
